"Actively engaged in the legislative process."

Dr. Krantz’s [Selleck] testimony before my committee in support of needed flexibility within Michigan's curriculum mandate was extremely compelling.  She was well-prepared and was able to draw upon her previous research while both outlining the policy objectives and answering the questions of committee members.  Through her efforts within the committee process as well as meetings with individual lawmakers, this important reform measure passed the Michigan House with overwhelming bipartisan support.

Kari also has several years of experience implementing successful Career Technical Education programs within my home school district in Owosso and consistently kept our district at the forefront with innovative and compelling content.  Her knowledge of emerging trends and effective delivery models has led to programs which prepare students of all backgrounds and abilities for future careers.

Because of her driven nature as a caring academic professional, I consider Kari an ongoing partner in my work in the Legislature.  I will continue to contact her as a thought leader on matters related to education policy.

“Intentional leadership.”

"I have worked with Dr. Krantz for 10 years in several education systems. Dr. Krantz has always had a clear view of how to develop a strategic plan to support deep sustainable educational change. She understands that the change process takes time and, like turning an ocean liner midstream, takes a persistent, insistent and consistent hand at the helm. She is innovative in creating different ways to achieve a goal with the welfare of her staff and students always foremost."

"Establishing a strong curriculum."

It has been my distinct pleasure to know Kari Krantz [Selleck] for many years. During that time I have found Kari to be a very creative, hard-working woman who puts her thoughts into motion.  She is truly a visionary whose ideas are well-founded in research. Kari is dependable, reliable and thorough. She was there with her full support as we instituted daily sustained silent reading for our middle school students and was a rock for our district when it came to establishing a strong curriculum. She is a dedicated and hard-working individual who has a passion for education.

- John Fattal

Corunna Public Schools Assistant Superintendent/Curriculum Director

“Student driven, systemic change.”

"Kari has always been a forward thinking, 21st Century educator that has always put the students of the district first. Her implementation of new courses in our high school has been very progressive. She focuses on all students and not just the college bound student. Career and Technical education courses have grown with her as our Curriculum Director. "

"Connecting curriculum to understanding."

"Kari’s leadership was instrumental in moving our three elementary schools to 21st century learning.  She implemented an International Baccalaureate philosophy to learning, along with a research based approach to reading, and a math program that moved from just focusing on procedures to including understanding and making connections to these procedures. Through the 7-year process, Kari was able to balance and monitor when it was appropriate to implement the next steps."

“Leading change with integrity.

"Dr. Krantz [Selleck} has a great understanding of the large scale structures within organizations, while keeping students at the center.  She has worked persistently to establish and enhance systems that ensure student engagement and learning.  Whether bringing innovative math programs to elementary students or greatly expanding the career and technical education opportunities for our teen population, Dr. Krantz’s [Selleck] vision is to impart students with relevant skills and knowledge that will prepare them for the challenges of life after high school. As IB Coordinator, I observed this first hand as I worked with Dr. Krantz and secondary teachers as the district continued to embrace and implement the IB philosophy."

“Strategically planned, collabortative professional development.”

"Dr. Krantz’s vision aligned our elementary curriculum seamlessly.  Her philosophical beliefs enabled her to research and put into place programs that would support instruction to make that vision happen.  Dr. Krantz systematically collected data from the elementary staff to determine what the taught curriculum was when she came on board.  After determining that our math instruction was the most critical, she looked at the research to find the math program that would develop critical thinkers for our elementary math curriculum.  After the adoption of the math program, she stayed the course and continued to provide professional development and eventually a math coordinator to support the staff to ensure the program was being taught with fidelity.  Once the math was implemented, Dr. Krantz began aligning our elementary schools with our secondary schools for the IB philosophy.  She designated a PYP coordinator, and began training staff at each building so that the elementary could provide a foundation knowledge piece before they entered the middle school for the Middle Years Programme.  Finally, Kari hired an internationally renowned literacy expert to provide the professional development to put a literacy program into place for our elementary staff.  This professional development was strategically planned between the expert and Dr. Krantz and transformed our literacy instruction from a hodge podge program of phonics based programs, outdated anthologies that were over a decade old and a read and test model of reading to an aligned program of reading instruction using peer reviewed research as models.  As Dr. Krantz and the reading consultant saw that the staff simply did not have the expertise necessary to put the plan into place without more support, Dr. Krantz took the recommendation and provided a resource of materials so the staff could effectively instruct small groups for more targeted instruction.  Dr. Krantz’s final piece of the puzzle was to organize a committee to systematically plan and present to grade level teams a framework for elementary writing.

Dr. Krantz has the capability to see the whole picture, identify the most critical components, and then plan and implement a plan of action.  I am proud to say that I was a small part of some of the changes that she made for our district.  As a result of her leadership, our instruction is aligned and reflects a model of inquiry-based, higher level instruction that will develop our students into critical thinkers for the 21st century."
